A Blend of Counselling and Coaching

More and more people are turning to therapy or coaching when life feels overwhelming, unclear, or stuck. But what if you didn’t have to choose between the two?

As someone trained in both counselling and coaching, I offer an integrated approach, support that helps you explore what’s going on within, while also helping you take steps forward. This kind of flexibility is at the heart of the Personal Consultancy framework.

What Is Integrative Counselling?

Integrative counselling means I draw from different therapy styles, such as humanistic, psychodynamic, or cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), to respond to your unique needs. This allows us to look at how past experiences may be shaping you today, work through difficult emotions, and help you reconnect with your authentic self.

Some sessions might feel reflective and grounding, others more active and solution-focused. But the core is always the same: offering a safe, collaborative space where you can make sense of your inner world.

And Where Does Coaching Fit In?

While counselling helps with deeper emotional understanding, coaching brings a forward-looking energy. It’s often about setting goals, building motivation, and making practical changes, whether that’s around confidence, relationships, career, or life direction.

Coaching focuses less on “why do I feel this way?” and more on “how can I move toward what I want?” When combined with counselling, it can help you not only understand yourself better but also begin to take intentional, values-led steps.

Why This Way of Working Matters

There’s growing interest in combining counselling and coaching because many people don’t just want to explore their feelings, they also want to make real changes in their lives. At the same time, it’s important that the support remains safe, clear, and grounded.

That’s where the Personal Consultancy model offers gentle structure to your journey. It creates space for emotional insight and practical steps, without blending everything together in a confusing or overwhelming way. It respects the depth of counselling and the momentum of coaching, offering both in a thoughtful, balanced way.

Personal Consultancy: A Framework for Integration

To bring together the best of both counselling and coaching, I use the Personal Consultancy model. This approach provides a clear and ethical framework for working across the two disciplines, without losing the integrity of either.

Rather than mixing everything all at once, Personal Consultancy moves through four key stages:

  1. Authentic Listening - We begin by listening deeply to your story, helping you reflect on your past and present.
  2. Rebalancing - We gently explore and work through any internal blocks or emotional conflicts that may be getting in the way.
  3. Generating - Once you feel ready, we begin exploring goals and forming new patterns of thinking, feeling, and acting.
  4. Supporting - I walk alongside you as you practise and maintain those changes in everyday life.

These stages aren’t fixed, you might move back and forth depending on what you need. But they offer a helpful rhythm, allowing us to move naturally between “being” (emotional presence and reflection) and “doing” (action and growth).

Final Thoughts

Life isn’t always straightforward, and neither is healing or personal growth. You might not know exactly what you need right now, and that’s okay.

This integrative approach is designed to meet you where you are, offering both emotional space and practical tools to help you move forward with more clarity, confidence, and self-trust.

If you’re curious, or just want to talk things through before taking the next step, I’d be happy to hear from you.
